On December 6, Belden’s Julie Furber, Executive Vice President, Smart Buildings, was the featured speaker at P2 Networks Ladies Empowerment Luncheon. Julie shared her story of navigating her way through a traditionally male-dominated market and maintaining her authenticity (even in the face of criticism).

“Don’t change. I realized that my style was who I am – excited, energetic and enthusiastic. By being my authentic self, I was able to get followership and inspire others.”

As an executive sponsor of Belden’s Authentic Voices for Inclusion and Diversity (AVID) Council, Julie feels it is her responsibility to be a role model and champion for women at Belden, and encouraged luncheon attendees to inspire and empower others to do the same.

“As we progress in our careers, being a role model and a champion is so important. If we break through a door, only to shut it behind us, we have done something only for ourselves. I urge you to seek out other women in the workplace, help them, sponsor them and encourage them. Together we can change the world for the better.”

As Executive Vice President of Belden’s Smart Buildings platform, Julie is responsible for business strategy development and execution, product development, organization and talent development, sales growth, margin expansion, operational excellence, customer satisfaction and employee engagement for the platform.

Prior to joining Belden, Julie spent fifteen years with Cummins in a variety of leadership roles including Vice President of the Electrified Power Business Unit. Prior to that she spent nine years at De La Rue PLC in the United Kingdom in both Finance and General Management roles. She has a degree in mathematics from Oxford University and is a CIMA qualified accountant.
